These words jumped out at me as I was doing my Bible reading a couple of mornings ago. It was right after I felt slightly annoyed with Jim when he was just trying to have a little fun with me. I was enjoying the quiet and reading the word. I didn’t feel like being funny or cute.
I felt the nudge to write down those words … ‘be beautiful’. Initially, I thought I was just going to create a word picture with it, but as the moments went by God started talking to me about being beautiful on the inside. I began to think about the amount of time that we spend making ourselves physically beautiful compared to the amount of time that we spend making ourselves beautiful on the inside.
We walk, we run, we go to the gym. We shower daily, we brush our hair, we brush our teeth, we put on makeup (some of us!). We carefully select the clothes we’re going to wear and we spend time purchasing them, washing them and hanging them carefully in our closets or putting them neatly in our drawers. But how much time do we spend on making ourselves beautiful on the inside?
How much time do we spend practicing those things that help us to have a good attitude and to be a good person?
How much time do we spend in prayer asking God to change us?
How much time do we spend concentrating on doing things right and treating people right?
How much time do I spend following the truth of his word that will make me beautiful?
Those are big questions … I just ask you to consider them as I am considering them myself.
This is a big and sometimes rough & ugly world we live in. I know that as we each do our part to ‘be beautiful’ beauty will take over this place in which we live.
