Preparing for your session can be quick and easy or time-consuming, all depending on your experience. Below are three tips that I consider when preparing for and doing a photo session.
Determine the location:
I determine the location with the help of my client.
Finding out what they're hoping for as far as the final look helps in having them love their photos once they're done.
I always have ideas in my head and give suggestions too, knowing the type of scene that will produce the prettiest pictures.
Kylan wanted trees.
Our area is full of grand oaks and when the light come through the branches they give off the prettiest light and backdrop.
Make your expectant mother shine:
Once we're there, I find the spot where my client will look their best.
I love tall grasses at their feet, a tree or two near where they stand and definitely trees in the bakground.
Always having the sun at their back adds some pretty highlights to their hair and a nice soft light on their face.
Don't forget your stepladder:
Something to consider is the height of your client. This was my first session to take a step ladder. I'm a pretty short person and Kylan is very tall (she wasn't my first tall client!).
To be more at eye level with your client, or even a little taller, helps in the overall aesthetics of the images.
Many places have something I can step up on, but this one didn't. So, don't forget that stepladder!
